TRANSFIGURATIONS. Modern myth in Danish art 1900-1950

TRANSFIGURATIONS. Modern myths in Danish art 1900-1950

The exhibition presents a number of works directly or indirectly inspired by antiquity, the renaissance, and the baroque, and created by, for example, the painters Vilhelm Lundstrøm, William Scharff, and Axel Salto and the sculptors Kai Nielsen, Gerhard Henning, and Svend Rathsack.

The numerous motifs of transfiguration drawn from the mythology of antiquit reflect the radical changes in society t the time, and the wealth of buxom females and child motifs mirrors the growth of the emerging welfare state. A number of the works exhibited are studies or never-realised proposals for decorations in public spaces that flourished at the time, many of which are still visible in public buildings today.

The exhibition has been arranged in close collaboration with Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Ribe Kunstmuseum, and Faaborg Museum. Information in English is available as a hand-out at the entrance.
