| Stage 9, Krakow am See - Waren (Müritz) approx. 69 km
Well-rested and relaxed, you can now leave Krakow am See (S) and head for Serrahn. The route will take you in a wide arc around Krakower See towards the almost 450-year-old Kuchelmiß water mill. Not far from here you´ll find a number of carp dams, watched carefully at all times by herons. You´ve reached the "Nebel subglacial stream trench", a picturesque spot with a clear brook trickling through the ancient trees, an area which is highly popular with hikers. The next town, Serrahn [1], boasts a huge church. At the edge of the town lies the old post station, and there´s also a place to swim and an old smithy. Linstow [2] is home to the only museum in Germany dedicated to the fate of the ethnic Germans who were forced to leave their home town of Volhynia in the Soviet Union after the Second World War. As you leave Linstow you´ll have Linstower See and the River Nebel, a tributary of the River Warnow, in front of you. Enjoy the view as you cycle towards Bornkrug [3], where you can admire another old post station. Next, head for the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide nature reserve, passing through an extensive wooded area on the road to the small woodcutting village of Drewitz [4]. Just a few metres from the route, on the shores of Drewitzer See, lies a hotel and holiday centre which, until just a few years ago, functioned as a hunting lodge for the members of the then DDR government (known as Honecker-object). The route leads along a narrow road through the forest and via a woodland path north of Nossentiner Hütte directly to Loppin [5]. Cross the railway line and cycle around the northern edge of Jabelscher See. Whilst at the lake, visit the fishing ground and enjoy some freshly smoked fish. Next, cycle on through the changing countryside, past the school camp in the forestry district of Nossentiner Heide to Jabel [6]. Your attention will no doubt be drawn to the gigantic old yew near the rectory - its trunk measures 4 metres in circumference! After another few kilometres, you´ll reach the small town of Damerow [7]. Huge aurochs are bred here, and part of the flock can be seen from viewing platforms in an observation enclosure. The route now leads directly along the shore of lake Kölpinsee, through a wood and onwards to Müritz, the largest lake in Germany, and the very heart of the Mecklenburg lake landscape. There is a great deal of activity here in the summer, both in and out of the water. The town of Waren (Müritz) (D) is surrounded by no less than three lakes: Tiefwarensee, Feisneck and Müritz. Here, you´ll find the Müritz Museum and the fresh-water aquarium as well as a number of large warehouses by the harbour. In the medieval town centre lie the churches of Georgenkirche and Marienkirche, both from the 13th century. Marienkirche church is home to the oldest structure in the town, namely the quadrangular fieldstone chancel. The church´s viewing platform affords an enchanting view of Waren.
