Stage 12, Neuglobsow - Dannenwalde approx. 30 km.

Set off from Neuglobsow (S) and you´ll soon be able to see the 50-metre-high church in the spa town of Fürstenberg/Havel (1). Enjoy this well preserved quiet town with its charming old square and the many beautiful historical buildings, including the Fisherman´s House. The house has additional appeal because of the home-made poems displayed on oak boards affixed to the house by Beyer, the local fishing master. The clear lakes around the town and the River Havel guarantee endless fun on the water. The town is geared to tourists and spa guests, and offers a wide range of first-class cultural attractions. Continue along the same road and you´ll soon reach Ravensbrück (2) where a memorial has been raised in memory of the largest concentration camp for women inside Germany. A trip to Lychen [A] by the water makes for a wonderful detour. You´ll reach the well-known spa after travelling just six kilometres through the wood. From here, you can enjoy a delightful trip by canoe or pedalo or - if you´re a little more adventurous - on an old-fashioned raft.

Follow the nature path known as "Morgenland" and after some six kilometres on an asphalted road you´ll arrive at the charming town of Himmelpfort [3]. The town, which is surrounded by four lakes and large woodlands, acquired its "heavenly" name from the 700-year-old abbey here. The abbey garden has more than two hundred herbs and spices and you´ll find a great deal of fascinating information on their curative effect, their taste and their cultivation.

At Woblitz Environmental Station between Himmelpfort and Lychen you can admire yet more birds of prey. Following this ornithological break, it´s time to get back on the road towards the next town, namely Bredereiche [4]. You may see a herd of goats chewing the fresh grass in one of the meadows at the edge of the town. Following an ancient recipe, their milk is used to produce a strong cheese at an old creamery nearby. Don´t miss out on this culinary delight - cycling´s a hungry business!

The rest of this stage involves a journey of approx. eight kilometres through green woods to your destination. In Dannenwalde (D) you can visit "The church by the road". If you still have any energy left, then head for Rheinsberg [B] to look at the castle and enjoy a walk through the park. Zernikow [C] manor, which bears witness to the power and greatness of times past, is also worth a detour.
