| Stage 13, Dannenwalde - Zehdenick approx. 22 km.
Before continuing along Lake Wentow, you´ll pass the town of Fischerwall [1]. The next destination is Wentow [2] where you´ll see the first views of Lake Wentow. After a short rest and perhaps some light refreshment, proceed to Zabelsdorf [3] where an old fieldstone church bears witness to the importance of religion in Brandenburg. Following this cultural edification, it´s time to get back on your bike and cycle on to Marienthal [4] and then to Burgwall [5]. The timber-framed church in Marienthal is worth seeing, as is the working clay pit you´ll find in Burgwall. Take a small break here so you´re ready to arrive in Zehdenick in fine style. First, however, you need to get to Mildenberg [6]. Although you´ll begin to get a real sense of the great open spaces in Brandenburg, you´ll quickly reach the town. On the way you´ll pass through one of the most clay-rich regions in Germany - more than 60 clay pits lie side by side along the right and left banks of the River Havel. Once the clay has been removed, the pits are abandoned and gradually fill up with water. Many pits have become distinct biotypes and are now home to waders, beavers and rare plants.
By the side of the road in Mildenberg, in an area which is home to two large listed brickworks, you´ll find the Mildenberg Brickworks Park. You should definitely set some time aside to visit this industrial museum in the heart of Mother Nature. Great attention has been paid to every detail: look back at the history of tile burning or take a trip in the tipper wagons. The brickworks museum in the ring kiln, the steam engine and the historical workshops (smithy, machine shop and coach builder) will appeal to everyone, not just to those who are interested in technology. If you wish to leave the cycle path, take a look at the "stone house" in nearby Badingen [A]. The house is visible from afar, and behind the remains of the once magnificent walls lies the fieldstone church that belongs to the house. The six-kilometre-long lane that runs from Mildenberg [6] to Zehdenick [D] winds past a number of small lakes and offers some wonderful views of the fertile green Brandenburg landscape. Zehdenick lies near the Voss Canal, on the western outskirts of Schorfheide. The town´s historical centre is worth a visit, particularly the abbey ruin and the museum ship. If you need a rest after a long day on the road, then board an excursion boat for a relaxing trip on the water.
