Tips for Preplanning

For the maximum enjoyment from your cycle holiday one should always prepare from home. It´s important that you have a good cycle and the proper equipment for your baggage. Plan your distances and decide cycling speed with regard to the slowest cyclist in your group. An average cyclist can ride 10-12 km pr hr for about 5-6 hours pr day. When children are a part of the group then of course their abilities decide.

If you hire a bicycle you must remember that, with many dealers one shall return the bicycle to the same place one hires it from. Hire a bike with a selection of gears and sensible tyres. It is important to ensure that your bicycle dealer is careful and precise with regard to the height of the bicycle seat and other equipment.

  • Check the bicycle thoroughly and remember to keep the cycle tyres fully pumped up to help lessen your punctures.
  • Not all places on your route will have bicycle repair shops, so remember basic equipment (puncture kits, screwdriver etc.) and a pump.
  • A bicycle basket or some kind of front baggage is a good addition to the essential cycle bags.
  • Carry a water bottle where it is easily accessed.
  • The bicycle should always have installed both lights and reflectors
  • Plan your route around the sightseeing.
  • Take rainwear clothing.
  • Plan your intended sleeping places with regard to your choice of clothes.
  • The recommended weight is max. 15 kg luggage pr. bicycle
  • Check with Tourist Information and the local cycle dealers.
  • It is recommended that one uses a cycle helmet even though it is not demanded by law.

Bicycles with attached child carriers must have two independent brakes.

Children over 6 years old may cycle alone, though it is recommended in fast traffic that an adult cycle on the left hand side of the child.
