Bring your bike on the train
It is posssible to enjoy the route in small sections by taking the train or the bus in some parts of the route or you may wish to cycle out and go home by train. We will give you some useful information for the planning of the route.

International trains Germany
You can bring you bicycle to Germany in some of the international trains between Fredericia and Germany. If you wish to travel from Copenhagen, Sealand and Funen there will be connection to the international trains between Fredericia and Germany by using the IntercityTrains to Kolding/Frederica. It is necessary to reserve bicycle space in the international trains. You may bring ordinary bicycles, but not tandem bicycles or bicycle trailers.
The number of bicycle spaces is limited and it is therefore recommended to reserve in good time.
It is not possible to send your bicycle ahead in Denmark.
You need a special ticket for your bicycle in the train. From Denmark it is only possible to buy the outward ticket. The ticket for your journey home you must buy in the departure country.

It is also a possiblity to go by the regional trains from Copenhagen - Nykøbing F - Gedser, take the ferry to Gedser - Rostock and continue your trip to Berlin by the German regional trains. Please note that there is only one daily connection by train between Nykøbing F and Gedser. Your will find more bus connections.
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has established a hotline for cyclists, who want to go by DB. The phone no. is + 1805 15 14 15 on this number cycle specialists will give you information on bike and train travels, e.g. train service, possibility for hiring and sending cycles and lot of other useful information. Travelling in Germany
Regional trains and S-trains
In Germany it is possible to send your bicycle ahead you can send it via ”KurierGepäck”, that will transport the bicycle from door to door.
If you are a family or a group of up to 5 persons DB give special offers. Further information you can find on the DB Hotline for cyclists.
In Germany you can bring your bicycle with you on the regional trains and in the S-trains. Reservations are not available. There may be problems of capacity in the trains. There will always be the train personal that can decide where there is room for the bicycle on the train itself. Therefore avoid rush hour trafic during the morning and in the evening. Also be aware that prices for bicycle tickets and the rules for tranport may vary in the the different regions. In some regions the transport of your bicycle will even be free.

Tranport in Denmark
You can take your bicycle with you on most trains in Denmark. The doors of the railway carriages that have space for bikes are marked with a bicycle motive. You should remove all baggage from the bike before loading. It is your responsibility to load and unload your bike onto and from the train. There will always be train personal that can decide where there is room for the bicycle on the train itself.
From May 1st August 31st you have to reserve bicycle space on the the InterCity Trains. You can buy the reservation ticket on railway stations and on DSB travel agencies or on the phone + 70 13 14 15
Normally it is just ordinary bicycles that can be taken on the train. Bicycle trailers can not travel by train. Bicycle trailers with their wheels removed can travel as hand luggage, if the accumulated size is not more than 100 x 60 x 30 cm.
Regional trains.
You will find regional trains on the distances Copenhagen Nykøbing F. Rødby and Gedser. Please note that there is only one departure a day between Nykøbing F and Gedser ( Route 11).
You can bring you bicycle in the regional trains when there is room for it in the special areas for bicycles. It will always be the train personnnel that can decide where there is room for the bicycle. You should remove all baggage from the bike before loading. It is not possible to reserve bicycle space on the regional trains
A bicycle ticket must be bought when taking the train. The price depends on the distance of your journey.
S-trains
You will find S-trains on the distances Køge Copenhagen (Route 15). You may bring your bike on the S-trains. The price of the bicycle ticket is 10 Dkr.
Please note the rush hour traffic. It is not possible to bring your bike from Køge Copenhagen from Monday Friday from 7 am 8.30 am in the period September 1st June 1st (2001/2002).
And it is not possible from Copenhagen Køge from Monday Friday from 3.30 pm 5 pm in the period September 1st June 1st (2001/2002).
Private trains
On the routes 13 and 14 it is possible to use the private train:

Between Hårlev and Køge the train leaves every half hour. And between Hårlev and Rødvig and Hårlev and Fakse Ladeplads the train leaves every hour.
Your S-train bicycle ticket is also valid in the private train. The price is 10 DKr. for 2 hours.
The private train is connected to the distance Køge- Copenhagen in Køge.
On local distances on the private train the local tickets and rules are valid.
Bus
Storstrøms Trafikselskab (STS) gives information on bus routes. Bicycles can, to a limited extent, be taken on the regional buses. Price Dkr. 35 (2001).

Worth knowing
When you travel by bike and train you must be ready in good time before train departure so you have time to be informed where the train sections with space for bicycles will stop. Remove the baggage from the bike so you are ready to load. When you travel with other persons you help each other by loading and unloading. Place your bicycle so it will not be inconvenient for other passengers. Take your seat in the train and enjoy the trip. Five ten minutes before the train reach you destination you will go to your bicycle and get ready to unload.
